The Arrival of Arianna
March 12 – The due date is here and everyone’s calling,
We’re not sure why – you seem to be stalling.
Your mom, Sarah and - your dad, Pat are - ready to go,
Whether you’re Brennan or Arianna, we’ll all love you so.
March 13 – Mom went for an extra walk in the mall,
Excited to see if you’re short or you’re tall.
Grandpas Gary and Jimbo can’t guess the date,
Grandmoms Pam and Colleen know you’ll be great.
March 14 – Aunts Corrina and Katie await for the ring,
While Jeremy, Megan and David are ready to sing.
We’re praying you’re healthy and your mom is too,
And don’t care if we have to buy pink or buy blue.
March 15 – This is the date that most folks guessed,
That parents Sarah and Pat would be come blessed.
We are all anxious, but please take your time,
So you’re a little late – that’s not a crime
March 15 am – Now you’re three days late – you’re stressing your mom,
Too soon you’ll be getting dressed for the prom.
You might as well wait two more days,
And the luck of the Irish will sure come your way.
March 15 pm – Corrina had a track meet so we all met there,
Mom, Dad, Grandmom and the Gramps with grey hair.
We were all so hungry, we went to Zips,
Wondering if you’ll have beautiful lips.
As soon as mom got home her water broke,
She and Pat called everyone – we all had a stroke
Off to the hospital, it was around three,
Grandparents Pam and Gary raced from Salem – no time to pee.
Aunt Katie sped from Seattle in her old car,
She was excited to see the new little star.
Everyone arrived safe and visitors showed too,
Terry, Colleen, Dave – everyone - came to see you.
Now the clock has turned midnight, your mom is great,
But you little bugger – you’re making us wait.
There’s three sleeping on the couches, two on the floor,
Grandmom Pam’s in the car, her head’s on the door.
Well, what do you know, it’s a quarter to three,
Are you a boy or a girl? We’re excited to see.
Almost everyone’s gone home to catch a few zzz’s
Will you come out soon – if we say please?
Rumor now has it, you’re waiting till eight,
We’ll still love you – even if you’re late.
Grandpa Jimbo has watched Sportscenter for the one hundredth time,
Before he goes crazy, can you make an appearance by nine.
Mom is starting to push – it’s a quarter to eight,
The nurse is looking for Colleen – I’m shocked she is late.
Angela is here to help lend a hand,
We hired a DJ – where is the band?
It’s now 9:02 and we’re in room two thirty three,
We’re a little worried – there’s no doc to see.
Mom is pushing real hard so you’ll be born,
We’re ready with bells, whistles and horns.
Okay, Dr White is here, ready to work,
The rest of us are going beserk,
Almost 19 hours labor, mom is a saint,
Your dad is a trooper – he didn’t even faint.
Then Pat ran to the rest room and away from your bed,
He told us they’re buzzing – they saw your head.
There’s a little boy Eagan running around in our room,
Is that a telltale sign of what’s coming soon?
It’s Angela’s turn to see if you’re here,
She comes back exclaiming – “there’s a baby in there!”
We’re all ready to race down the hall,
We decide it’s better to wait for the call.
We wait 10 minutes then 15 more,
What’s the doctor doing – has he gone to the store?
Finally, Grandmom Colleen comes in with a grin,
“I can’t tell you if it’s a her or a him.”
The moment is close – we still have to wait,
We don’t know your gender – but we do know the date.
Finally, the cameras are rolling and we see who you are,
Arianna is shining like a beautiful star,
Mom and Dad are so proud of how great you look,
You’re a hero to all of us – that’s the end of this book.
